Sandwich money

Ken Brucato’s class in The Matheny School regularly holds special sandwich days, during which the students take orders for sandwiches that they make and deliver to Matheny staff members. The money raised is always donated to a worthy organization.

This summer, the class decided to designate the American Red Cross as a gift recipient. “We started talking about Hurricane Sandy,” Brucato said, “and one of the kids said, ‘How about the Red Cross? It helps people all over the world.’”

What Brucato didn’t realize is that Matheny has a special relationship with the North Jersey Region of the American Red Cross. Kevin Ralph, chief development officer, was formerly chief development officer at Matheny. So, Ralph made a return trip to Matheny, visited with some former colleagues and accepted a check for $200.
